A Circus right out of a Fairy Tale

Circus Roncalli – a circus which is not a circus; a show which is not a show; a theatre which is not a theatre – offers a performance that enthrals its audience, it is a poetic event for young and old, a captivating charade, a fairy-tale journey into the depth of our hearts, a gentle kiss for our soul.
‘The miracle Roncalli’ (Geo) began 33 years ago in 1976. Since then, the circus has enchanted more than 18m people and enthuses audiences in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Russia, Belgium and Spain. Roncalli has inspired the international circus scene unlike any other company and has been imitated by many from Sweden to Italy, from Moscow to Morocco.

Since then, Roncalli has experienced an incomparable march of triumph and is enjoyed by 500,000 visitors every year. The circus has made it from the local to the feature pages of the press, it has transformed circus body art into an art-body, and alongside the traditional family audience, it has once more attracted young people, intellectuals and artists (Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Leonard Bernstein, Sting, Siegfried&Roy, David Copperfield and many more) to the circus tent.
You will not see lions jumping through rings of fire, chimpanzees on motor scooters or screaming clowns, but experience ‘The Greatest Poem of the Universe’, ‘The Journey to the Rainbow’, ‘Commedia dell’Arte’, Salto Vitale’ and ‘Teatro Paradiso’ (programme titles of Roncalli). There is a central theme from prelude to finale, in the humorous interludes, in the gentle changeovers and in the fantastic costumes, just like in a fairly tale. The programme offers much more than just a sequence of artistic numbers.
